We consider you all to be a part of our family. We hope all of you
had a very blessed and joyous Christmas and holiday season.
Speaking of family….Jim Downing, a Board Certified Hearing Instrument
Specialist, grew up here in Eugene and is a graduate of North Eugene High
School. He has been married to his wife, Glenda, for 16 years. He and
Glenda have 2 lovely daughters. Jennifer, who just turned 13, is home
schooled and involved with ballet. Jessica is a first-grader at Washington
Elementary where she attends the special school for hard of hearing children.
Jessica was born with a severe high frequency hearing loss, and benefits
from some terrific BTE hearing aids. She loves her hearing aids, and
is a great communicator. Jim has years of experience helping people
with various challenging hearing losses. There are not many who have
Jim’s level of expertise and problem-solving talents. Technology changes
so frequently, and each manufacturer has their specialties when it comes
to features, but Jim keeps up with all the latest technological advances
in order to provide the best care for our patients. There are some
exciting options available for those who experience extreme high frequency
hearing loss where occlusion has been a problem.
Beth Bell has worked for Jim for over 5 years now. She also
grew up in Eugene, and is a graduate of Sheldon High School.
After working in this field for over 5 years, Beth has gained a certain amount
of knowledge, experience and understanding of the challenges hearing
impairment brings to individual lives, and enjoys using the skills she has
acquired in helping Jim with their clients. Beth has been married
to her husband, Mike, a local pastor, for 28 years. She and
her husband have 3 grown children and 4 grandsons and another grandchild on
the way. Their daughters live in the area with their families;
their son, Michael and his wife have been serving in the Marine Corps for
the past 4 years; her son is now in the Active Reserves, training to be an
electrician; her daughter-in-law is in medical school.
Both Jim and Beth are committed to providing the best hearing products
along with the best, compassionate hearing care possible. No problem
is too small, no question is considered silly.
We believe that hearing healthcare is a family concern, and we encourage
families to be involved together in the process of hearing better.
Office News:
Beth is now going to be at Advanced Hearing Plus in Springfield full
time. For a few months, she was splitting her days between Jim’s
office and a fellow hearing aid specialist’s office in Cottage Grove.
She will work in Cottage Grove a couple of afternoons a month, but will remain
at Advanced Hearing Plus in Springfield full time. Jim says, “Yippy
Skippy!!!” We maintain a very busy office here, but understand how
emergencies can arise and will do our best to fit you in whenever possible.
Special Events:
We just had our winter special event sale with Derek McKinney.
We are very thankful for the opportunity to be of help to several new patients
as well as some old friends. We will be announcing some new products
and special events in the months to come.
New Product Info:
Some of you have experienced wonderful results from some new products
we’ve been working with this past year. One product, the PAC system
from SeboTek, is very versatile for those with an extreme, high frequency
loss. It provides enough power without feedback, is very tiny-- virtually
invisible. Those who have struggled with conventional custom products
in the past LOVE this product and have commented how comfortable and natural
sounding it is. Starkey and Unitron are also coming out with new systems
that address the high frequency loss and occlusion problems many experience.
We're very excited about these new products.
Did you know…
That you don’t hear with your ears---you, in fact, hear with your brain!
Your hearing nerves carry electricity to your brain, where you actually
hear. That is why it’s important to wear your hearing aids on a consistent
basis---you are keeping your brain in practice to hear various sounds.
It is like exercising a muscle. If you don’t exercise, you lose muscle
tone, and your muscles weaken and are ineffective in performing various
functions. Hearing is like that. The more you wear your hearing
aids, the better your brain gets at recognizing words.
