March 2005

Beth

Hello Everyone,

March has come in like a lamb!  I know many of you are yearning to get out in your flower beds and gardens. Instead of listening to the rain fall, we're enjoying the birds singing and getting ready for all the joys of spring.  It's a real treat to see the trees all abloom, along with many of our perennials, a whole month early!

We have a very busy month planned for March, starting with our spring Special Event.  We are very excited about featuring the latest technology available in the hearing industry.  Siemens Acuris with wireless technology is truly the most innovative hearing instrument, allowing the hearing aids to communicate with each other, so you don't have to adjust both---just make the adjustment to one---the other automatically follows.  We also are featuring the newest in open-air technology which affords a lot more flexibility in fitting those with high frequency hearing loss.  Have you or a loved one been frustrated with the "head in a barrel" feeling when wearing hearing instruments?  This new open air technology solves that problem.  Many of you know that we have been offering the SeboTek Pac system to address this "occlusion effect" that many with a high frequency loss experience.  Now, there are other manufacturers offering various models and circuits to fill this need.  We are offering very good discounts on a wide variety of these products.  As many of you know, we do try to keep our costs down and pass along our savings to you in order to make hearing help as affordable as possible.  That's why we offer the variety that we have.

Earlier this month, Jim attended the Tri State Hearing Convention, held in Portland this year.  All the latest and greatest hearing aid technology and products are shown at these conventions, and classes are offered dealing with specific issues involved in dispensing and adjusting the various products.  This is a very busy month as Jim will be going to Minnesota later, on the 17th and 18th, to obtain further training for the new Starkey open air Aspect hearing instruments.  Our office will remain open while Jim is gone.

On the 21st-23rd of this month we will be hosting a Unitron Hearing event.  The representative from Unitron Hearing will be here Monday, the 21st, to answer any questions you may have.  During those three days, we will be offering a discount on the Unitron digital products.  We are very pleased with Unitron hearing instruments, and know many of you wear them and are pleased with their performance.  As usual, their digital intruments come with a 3 year warranty.

A word about our ONLINE STORE:  Have you checked our online Assistive Listening Devices store lately?  If you have, then you know what a great variety of products we offer.  If you know anyone who needs a TV amplifying system that allows them to hear TV clearly without blasting out the neighbors and the rest of the family (!), or if you need phone amplification systems for your home or office, a paging system---or even a stethoscope---we have a large variety of various models to choose from.  You can order any of these products online from our website and have them shipped directly to your door.  If you cannot order online, please call and we'll be glad to order for you and have it shipped directly to you.  We take VISA or MasterCard for phone orders.  If you can't find what you're looking for---but I really don't think that will be the case with the variety we have---please let me know, and I'll be happy to check into it for you.

IT'S A FACT......that only about 20% of the people who need hearing help gets that help.  We believe it is an important part of our job to educate the public regarding the importance of maintaining their hearing and obtaining the hearing help they need....it has such a long-range impact upon quality of life and relationships.  There are so many products available today in many price ranges that offer the help so many need.   A hearing impairment affects a person's behavior, their emotions, their thoughts and cognitive abilities, as well as their relationships.  It has been shown that hearing impaired individuals who do not wear hearing instruments indicate much higher rates of depression, anxiety, paranoia, anger, and other emotional distresses than do those who do wear hearing instruments.  Oftentimes, a person with a hearing loss may withdraw from others, avoiding social situations, and becoming reclusive.  Hearing aids not only improve hearing, they also contribute toward improved interpersonal relationships.  They also help to reduce depression, frustration and anger, and paranoia, resulting in improved emotional stability.  In addition, they help give back a person's confidence, leading toward more social involvement with others.  Hearing instruments help significantly in improving mental and emotional health, relatioinships with others, and life in general.

A word about SONUS----We are an authorized Sonus hearing aid center.  Many of you are not sure what that means.  Sonus is not a hearing aid manufacturer---there is no brand of hearing aid named, "Sonus", although many aids are stamped with the Sonus logo.  Sonus is actually a buying network offering a variety of manufacturers' products at a discount to member hearing aid dispensers and audiologists.  We belong to the Sonus group in order to be able to provide you with the most competitive pricing for the latest hearing instrument technology.  This is one way that we are able to provide the best hearing aids at the best possible prices.

REMINDERS....Those of you who last had your hearing aids cleaned and checked in November, it's time ot bring them in for another cleaning.  We put them in a special vacuum chamber where they are freshened up.  We also vacuum any debris that might be in the receiver and mics and check the instrument to make sure it is operating properly.  Periodic professional cleanings help to prolong the life of your hearing instruments.
