Newsletter

December 2007

Hello, everyone!

As shepherds watched their flocks by night...

We hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah! Hard to believe it's that time of year again, huh? I think every year goes by faster than the one before...sure seems like it, anyway!

Oticon's new hearing aid

Jim recently went to a seminar on a new product by Oticon—the EPOQ. This hearing aid is a premium digital system that has BlueTooth capability. Very impressive.

Unitron's new hearing system

Unitron has a new product, the Yuu. This system is extremely versatile with many features that offer speech clarity. This unique system also allows the patient to make adjustments to the hearing system without having to come into the office to do so. Jim will be going to New Orleans next month to receive special training on this product.

Tinnitus News

Continued research in this field is yielding some very interesting information regarding the brain's involvement in producing tinnitus. According to the Nov. 1, 2007 edition of Medical News Today, "Brain scientists at Johns Hopkins have discovered how cells in the developing ear make their own noise, long before the ear is able to detect sound around them."

As we've stated in previous newsletters, one theory of the cause of tinnitus is that the brain provides its own sounds when sound is absent at various frequencies. This discovery shows that these supporting cells generate their own activity, producing sounds even when sounds are not heard. For background information, see our 8-part article about the Malady of Tinnitus from our web site.

New Micronutrient Supplement for Hearing Health

Premier Micronutrient Corporation, Nashville, TN, has announced a launching of a Hearing Health micronutrient supplement that will provide cellular protection against hearing impairment and balance disorders as well as help to reduce tinnitus.

This scientific study revealed that patients who received the PMC supplement along with standard therapy, performed better in all testings than those who only received standard therapy alone.

According to Kedar N. Prasad, Ph.D., PMC chief scientific officer and former professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, "Results from our work with the Naval Medical Center were extremely encouraging and further validated the many years of research we have committed to developing micronutrient antioxidant supplements that decrease oxidative damage caused by hazardous environmental exposures...Perhaps even more exciting are the individual experiences we've heard from countless patients who have experienced real, measurable and sustained improvement with their hearing and balance issues."

This supplement was previously only available to scientific study participants and US military members, but is now being made available to the general public through hearing healthcare professionals and the PMC web site at Premier Micronutrient Corporation .
