April 2006

Hello, everyone!

It looks like spring is finally here. It sure is good to see the flowers and trees in bloom and feel the sunshine again! There's always a wonderful "newness" to spring, isn't there? I suppose it's appropriate that a lot of new technology is also making its debut this time of year.

Jim learned some valuable things at TriState this year and came away with information regarding new technology. This week, he is in Minnesota acquiring more training on some new digital products. Technology is changing so fast; we have to keep up with all the changes from all our manufacturers. There are some exciting, innovative products available today that we didn't have even a year ago!

Do you have trouble with feedback whistle? Hearing in crowds? Speech clarity? Comfort? Plugged up feeling? We now have products that address these issues. Today, there really isn't any reason why your dresser drawer should be wearing your hearing aids!

Last week, we had a special sales event here and made many new friends. We are so happy to be able to offer state-of-the-science technology at very competitive prices. We really believe that we have the best pricing and service around.

The factory-trained rep that we had with us last week, travels all over the country, helping with sales events. He couldn't get over our prices. He kept telling us that we have the best prices he's seen anywhere he's been.

Because of the new open-air technology, we are able to provide risk-free demonstrations of our products. Just call ahead, and we will be happy to schedule a free consultation and let you "test drive" the latest technology. We have a variety of open-air products from several manufacturers that come in a wide range of prices (and colors, too)!

Hearing loss and ipods

As many of you know, there is growing concern regarding hearing loss among younger people and music lovers. This is largely due to the growing use of ipods that bring the music or "noise" (whichever, in your opinion it may be--smile--) closer to the eardrum. The problem with ipods is that users often wear generic earbuds in their ears, which do not block out background noise, thus causing the user to turn up the volume even more in order to be able to hear the music more clearly. That, coupled with the fact that ipod users tend to listen to their music in this fashion for long periods of time without giving their ears a rest, makes for a hearing disaster.

Listening to any sound at 85dB and above for a prolonged period of time is going to do permanent---yes, I said permanent---damage. Normal speech is around 65 dB. We recommend two things: try to refrain from listening to an ipod for more than 15 minutes at a time and keep the volume under 85 dB by obtaining special earbuds that seat better in the ear, blocking out the background noise so that the volume doesn't have to be turned up louder to compensate (Westone and other manufacturers make these).

As always, your questions and comments are welcome.
